In the busy streets of Manila, families face the lethal impact of the pandemic. Barangay 473 is just one of the 241 barangays in Sampaloc, Manila where most of the families were rendered homeless and some minimum wage earners are at the brink of becoming jobless.

PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) responds to the call of over 500 families by providing them with food packs. The families reside in Barangay 473 Zone 47 in Algeciras Street in Sampaloc, Manila.

The food pack donations are made possible through the PLDT-Smart fundraising campaign #ProjectProtect: Protect Yourself, Help Others. As of August 3, the first batch of #ProjectProtect Kits has raised over P300,000.

A #ProjectProtect Kit costs P500 which includes two (2) PSF customized facemasks and one (1) Y2P face shield. One kit is equivalent to one PSF-Y2P relief bag. PLDT and Smart employees nationwide are encouraged to buy the kits to help feed underprivileged families severely affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our bayanihan spirit remains resilient, especially during this tough time. By partnering with various organizations, we hope to reach out to more Filipinos who are severely impacted by the pandemic,” said PLDT-Smart Foundation President Esther Santos.

The #ProjectProtect campaign is done in partnership with the PLDT-Smart People Group and Your200Pesos, a non-government organization co-founded by TV personality Michele Gumabao.

“I’m so thankful that #ProjectProtect continues to support Your200Pesos. This face shield fund drive is for the Y2P Relief Eco packs that we have been distributing to communities and families in need. We are looking forward to more projects with PLDT-SMART Foundation and to more kababayans that we will help together. May these face shields and face masks protect you and your loved ones during this time,” Your200Pesos Founder Michele Gumabao said.

According to Gumabao, Y2P has visited 13 cities around Metro Manila and seven provinces since April.
